1.10 Forex Trading Sessions and Market Hours

Worldwide Forex trading sessions.
The Forex market never sleeps except on the weekends and bank holidays. The round the clock trading is one of the very attractive features for the retail traders as you can trade at your leisure, in your free time. However, it is important to know the timings of different local trading sessions as the local sessions may be unique as far as the volatility and volumes of certain currency pairs are concerned. It is also important to know the timings when two or more local sessions overlap.
The FX market is made up of four important trading sessions, each named after a major financial center in a particular geography of the globe. These four sessions are:
  • Sydney
  • Tokyo
  • London
  • New York
The open and close timings in GMT of these sessions are shown below in these tables for the winter and summer seasons.

Note that there are some overlapping times – when one or more sessions are trading together. These are the times which are best to trade, because of high volumes generated by multiple markets. These overlapping times are highlighted in bright green at the bottom of each table.
