South African Rand:


South African Rand's ISO 4217 code is "ZAR".  Replacing the South African Pound, the South African Rand was introduced on 14th February 1961. The subdivision of the Rand is Cent and 1 Rand = 100 Cents.

Geographies Covered: South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho. Nambia had withdrawn from the common monetory zone but Rand is legal there also.

US Dollar:


US Dollar's ISO 4217 code is "USD". United States Mint which was founded in 1792 had issued the first coins of US Dollar. Mint was an independent body and ultimately became a part of Department of the Treasury. The US Dollar paper money was launched in 1862 which did not have the backing of precious metals i.e. Gold and Silver which the earlier coins had.

The subdivision of the US Dollar (USD or US$) is Cent and 1 US Dollar = 100 Cents.

Geographies Covered: United States of America and also the sole currency of the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos islands.
